reported to the A.S.P., H.T. who then accompanied to the hills
to the East of the Station. It was now about 7.5 to 7.10 p.m.
The light was failing. As we climbed the ridge and got near
the top, I heard an outbreak of rifle shots from the direction of
the Station. I thought it was an exchange of shots between
Station and married quarters. I had heard a similar outburst
earlier when I first arrived.
On reaching the top of the ridge I could see the east end of the
Station. The firing had ceased. 1 then heard shouts in
Hindustani from the Station which were answered from the married
quarters. I accompanied the A.S.P. to the married quarters and
found that B.722 had come out. The other 3 Indians in the
Station came out directly afterwards. It was now dark. The
A.S.P. made up a party to enter the Station, i.e. himself, myself,
Sergt. Youe and 4 I.P.Cs. We worked up to the back gate of the

Sergt. Youe at S.W. corner of Station and took up my position
at the compound gate. About 9 p.m. I heard Sergt. Youe shout
and fire his revolver over the wall. I could see nothing inside
the compound. I fired one round of my rifle into the latrine
alley-way. I saw and heard nothing. I made certain dispositions
and stayed on the spot until about 9.30 p.m. when I received a
message from the D.S.P. K. and asked urgently for torches.
About 9.45 p.m. I was sent for and went down to the road to see
the D.S.P.K. I reported to him. The Verey pistol had been
left behind at Au Tau, and there were still no torches.
D.S.P. went off to Sheung Shui, and I returned to Au Tau to get
the Verey pistol. I was delayed en route for want of gasoline
and only got back to Lok Ma Chau about 11 p.m. I reported to
the D.S.P. and found that Hon: I.G.P. had arrived. I found the
I.G.P. outside the back gate of the Station and agaán after
